Anyone else try utilizing ImageVis 3D (to get the MRI data into a mode) and Meshmixer (to fix the model so that it can print) to create 3D models to review anatomy and teach before a case? Seems like overkill right now but it’s nice to hold a model in your hands, rotate it around, and show families and students/residents what your going to do. Nicer than a picture but at this point not more useful. Any one else tried this or has a system in place that’s been a hit? Any thoughts on how this can be more useful?

Pat, I think this is the future but at sickkids we are considering using 3D printed torsos for different age groups. It is going to be poor man model and not very sophisticated. I think there are some details in the 3D printed model that could be of use in clinical practice.

Can the printed models be constructed out of material suitable for mock surgery? Stiff 3D models alone would be useful for helping to visualize lesions for excision such as tumors, cystic lesions, etc.
