Program Director and Senior Research Associate – People Manager at the Centre for Global Child Health

Lisa Pell completed her PhD in the Department of Biochemistry at the University of Toronto, postdoctoral research fellowship in the Department of Molecular Genetics at the University of Toronto and a Master of Public Health at Imperial College London.

She joined the Centre for Global Child Health at The Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids) in 2013 as a Clinical Research Project Coordinator and is currently a Senior Research Associate – People Manager. On Dr. Morris’ research team, Lisa has managed all research activities for four prospective research studies that were implemented in Pakistan (NCT02130856, NCT03297671), Kenya (NCT02208960), and Bangladesh (NCT02388516). While each of these studies had unique specific objectives, they all aimed to improve infant health outcomes through the implementation of novel interventions that were administered during the pregnancy and/or neonatal period.

Lisa is currently the Co-Principal Investigator on a clinical trial that aims to estimate the effect of an integrated newborn care kit (iNCK) on newborn mortality in Gilgit-Baltistan, Pakistan (NCT04798833).

Senior Data Analyst

Danny Farrar (he/him) completed his Master of Public Health in epidemiology at the University of Toronto in 2018. He is the senior data analyst for several studies related to COVID-19, which includes an advisory role for the Stop COVID-19 in Kids project. Danny is also the senior data analyst on multiple other studies including those related to other viral respiratory tract infections, biomarkers to diagnose bacterial infections and newborn mortality in low-income countries.

Adria Rose is a public health physician who also has a background in medical anthropology. Dr. Rose trained in Preventive Medicine at Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia, and the Tufts University Floating Hospital for Children in Boston, Massachusetts. She received her Masters in Public Health at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health in Boston, Massachusetts, as well. Her previous work in Canada has centred on research and policy related to promotion of physical activity and healthy eating among children and youth. She recently joined Shaun Morris’ team and is involved in multiple projects, including the Vaccine Consult Service pilot project and ward-based vaccine survey, the iNCK project on improving newborn mortality in Pakistan, a study on clinician knowledge and attitudes about RSV prevention, and a clinical biomarker study on LCN2.

Elahe (Ela) completed her master’s degree in human nutrition at McGill University. She is currently a Clinical Project Research Assistant working on Stop COVID-19 in Kids project. Ela has over four years of experience in research project coordination, data management and conducting mixed-methods research. Her research interests revolve around developing and sustaining strategies to support and promote caregivers and child health.

Clinical Research Nurse Coordinator

Suganya Lee is a registered nurse with over 25 years of nursing experience. She graduated from the University of British Columbia School of Nursing in 1999. Throughout Suganya’s career, she has taken on a variety of research roles, both in the management of clinical studies and the coordination of pharmaceutical trials.

In 2008, having a desire to work with a paediatric population, Suganya accepted a Clinical Research Nurse Coordinator position within the Infectious Diseases Department at SickKids. The primary focus of her work involves the IMPACT program, which is a Canada wide surveillance network that monitors vaccine safety and the pattern of diseases that are currently or potentially vaccine-preventable in children. Other projects she is involved with include the Special Immunization Clinic programs and POPCORN.

Kim Simpson is a registered nurse with many years of experience working at SickKids in various positions. For the last 20 years, she has worked in Infectious Diseases as a Clinical Research Nurse Coordinator with their research team. Her main interest has been in Vaccine Preventable Diseases and has included the IMPACT surveillance program and the Special Immunization Clinic.
