Hong Xie is a Research Project Coordinator in the lab. She has been working in the lab from the beginning, a total of 19 years.
Hong did an MD at Hebei Medical University in Shijianzhuang, China and an MSc degree in biology at University of Waterloo in Waterloo, Ontario where she worked on genetically modifying soil bacteria to promote plant growth.
Besides organizing and ordering materials for the lab, Hong’s research includes the early work on septin localization, septin involvement in secretion, and Rho family GTPase signalling and septins. She maintains the septin knockout mouse lines in the lab.
Hong also trains new people in the lab with techniques we commonly perform, and she tends to complete revisions for papers submitted by graduate students and post docs who have moved on.
Hong’s favourite activities include cooking, reading and traveling.
Hong’s favourite quote is from George Jessel, “The human brain is a wonderful thing. It starts working the moment you are born, and never stops until you stand up to speak in public”.
