Mission statement

The Knight Lab is committed to providing an inclusive environment to conduct clinically- and patient-informed research on rheumatic diseases.

Our multidisciplinary research program is designed to inform clinical practice, improve patients’ health outcomes and advocate for health equity.

Patient and family involvement

  • Encourage and incorporate patient feedback to improve research practices
  • Conduct research in an ethical, compassionate, and culturally-informed manner that promotes patient agency and self-advocacy

Improving patient quality of life

  • Dissemination of findings to the scientific community and public to inform patient care
  • Raise awareness of the mental health impacts of childhood-onset Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE) to patients, parents, and the general public

  • Increase study participation among marginalized groups who are traditionally under-reported in SLE research
