Mission statement
The Knight Lab is committed to providing an inclusive environment to conduct clinically- and patient-informed research on rheumatic diseases.
Our multidisciplinary research program is designed to inform clinical practice, improve patients’ health outcomes and advocate for health equity.
Strategic objectives
Patient and family involvement
- Encourage and incorporate patient feedback to improve research practices
- Conduct research in an ethical, compassionate, and culturally-informed manner that promotes patient agency and self-advocacy
Improving patient quality of life
- Dissemination of findings to the scientific community and public to inform patient care
- Raise awareness of the mental health impacts of childhood-onset Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE) to patients, parents, and the general public
Commitment to health and equity
- Increase study participation among marginalized groups who are traditionally under-reported in SLE research
- Identify the factors that underlie health disparities and work towards health equity
Teamwork
- Utilize the diverse set of knowledge, skills, and abilities of our research team to work towards the shared goal of advancing the overall understanding of cSLE
- Foster an environment that encourages team members to contribute, collaborate, and grow as researchers
