Sazia Sharmin – Postdoctoral Fellow, 2017-2018

Sazia received her PhD from Kumamoto University, Japan with Dr. Ryuichi Nishinakamura. She studied renal development. Sazia established a protocol to generate glomeruli from patient derived induced pluripotent stem cells and developed a transplantation method to generate vascularized glomeruli. In the Ellis lab, Sazia worked with patient derived induced pluripotent stem cells (Rett syndrome and ASD) to generate peripheral sensory neuron that can be a useful model system for drug screening to treat ASD and Rett syndrome patients. She was funded by a Restracomp Graduate Scholarship.
