2000 – Present<\/p>\n

Education:\u00a0 <\/strong>Carol<\/strong> completed her PhD at University of Waterloo where she studied aging and senescence in plants as well as plant storage lipids.<\/p>\n

Current Project:\u00a0 <\/strong>Carol has been working on many areas of septin biology over her time spent in the lab including post translational modifications and signalling.<\/p>\n

Activities:\u00a0 <\/strong>She enjoys spending lots of time hiking in forests. In particularly she forages for edible wild plants and mushrooms. She is also interested in cheese making, other types of fermentation and cooking in general.<\/p>\n

\"Hong<\/a>Lab Research Project Coordinator<\/strong><\/p>\n

1996 – Present<\/p>\n

Education:\u00a0 <\/strong>Hong did an MD at Hebei Medical University in Shijianzhuang, China and an MSc degree in biology at University of Waterloo in Waterloo, Ontario where she worked on genetically modifying soil bacteria to promote plant growth.<\/p>\n

Current Project:\u00a0 <\/strong>Hong\u2019s research includes the early work on septin localization, septin involvement in secretion, and Rho family GTPase signalling and septins. She maintains the septin knockout mouse lines in the lab.<\/p>\n

Hong also organizes and orders materials for the lab, trains new people with techniques we commonly perform, and she tends to complete revisions for papers submitted by graduate students and post docs who have moved on.<\/p>\n

Activities:<\/strong>\u00a0 Hong\u2019s favourite activities include cooking, reading and traveling.<\/p>\n

Current Project:\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong>Rich is interested in the signalling pathways of scavenger receptors as well as lipid and cholesterol transport.\u00a0 He has studied how CD36,\u00a0a fatty acid transporter, is internalized by cells, followed by a single-particle tracking study of CD36, and the signaling pathway following ligation to oxidized LDL.\u00a0 In 2013 he published a paper on the X-ray crystallographic structure of LIMP-2, in the same family as CD36.<\/p>\n

Activities:<\/strong>\u00a0 In the spring and summer Rich can be found racing sailboats every week, hiking along the Bruce Trail, or training for a half-marathon.\u00a0 In the fall he will be fishing for rainbow trout or salmon on Lake Ontario tributaries.\u00a0 In winter you can find him carving up the slopes of Blue Mountain.<\/p>\n
