Name: Susie Wang
Lab Position: Research Technologist I
Degree: B.Sc. (Hons)
What’s your background?
I’m proudly from Mississauga, a beautiful suburb of Toronto. I did my undergraduate degree at the University of Toronto, with a double major in Immunology and Biomedical Toxicology.
What research projects are you currently working on?
Given my background in Immunology, I am currently working with a post-doctoral fellow to investigate immunotherapy in mice with mismatch repair deficient tumours. These mouse models provide an effective and versatile way to test the efficacy of new experimental drugs or combination therapies we are interested in.
Do you have any advice for someone interested in a career in research?
First and foremost, always get the experience before deciding this is something you may enjoy as a career, whether that’s through volunteering or shadowing someone in a lab. Research is rewarding, but it’s often not apparent in the beginning, so it’s important to find an area you are interested in to keep yourself motivated.
What are your interests outside of science?
In my downtime, I love to catch up on my shows on Netflix, crash through some levels on my PS4, or pretend I’m the lead singer of a rock band (only when I’m home alone). I also love to discover and explore different places in nature with friends.
What’s your favorite food?
Baked sweet potato or sweet potato fries.
Do you prefer coffee, tea, or none?
Definitely coffee, unless it’s milk tea.
