Name: Emma Gattoni
Lab Position: Research Technologist II
Degree: RVT, BSc
Education: Registered Veterinary Technician, Seneca College
Bachelors of Science, York University, Psychology (Neuroscience), Animal Behaviour

What’s your research background?
Since 2015, I have worked for multiple animal research facilities and have first-hand experience contributing to projects using different animal models. At the Tabori lab, I manage the mouse colony and continue the development of replication repair deficiency (RRD) mouse models, as well as refine technical methods. I also perform tissue culture, various laboratory procedures to help characterize these models, and test immunotherapies in order produce results that hopefully will be translatable to patients.

Do you have any advice for someone interested in a career in research?
Try new things – It can be just as valuable and beneficial to know if a setting/technique/field of interest does NOT work for you, compared to if it does. Don’t be afraid to explore and practice new strategies and protocols!

What are your interests outside of science?
As an RVT I love travelling in order to learn about diverse animal species and their habitats. I enjoy playing sports (especially soccer and volleyball) and whenever possible, am playing board games and spending time with friends and family.
