I’m Canadian of Korean descent. I studied Honours Biomedical Sciences at University of Waterloo, and started my graduate studies at Institute of Medical Science, University of Toronto.

My project focuses on regulation of telomerase in human cancers. Specifically, we are interested in a cancer-specific signature of DNA hypermethylation within the TERT promoter locus, and understanding its biological and clinical significance.
Do you have any advice for someone interested in a career in research?
In my opinion, biological research is a career that requires persistent effort, patience, and passion. Outcomes may not always be desirable, but if you enjoy discovering and learning new things, it is an amazing field to study/work in.
What are your interests outside of science?
I enjoy playing tennis, following latest technological advancements, and learning new things outside of my field of study.
What’s your favorite food?
If you haven’t tried, try Korean BBQ (especially pork belly)
Do you prefer coffee, tea, or none?
I will drink either coffee or tea as long as it’s decaf!
