student in the Rutka Lab. I did my undergraduate studies at the University of Toronto, double majoring in Neuroscience and Immunology with a minor in Psychology. My project focuses on application of magnetic-resonance guided focused ultrasound in diffuse intrinsic pontine glioma.

Why Science?

I think it’s fun to learn more about how humans and different biological systems work, especially since the findings can be used to help better the world. I think I’ve just always been interested in the neuroscience/psychology/“brain” field, but that really developed during undergraduate when I learned more about the topic, along with a new interest in immunology too. I don’t think I have a particular reason for pursuing science other than it’s something I find enjoyable.

What is your favourite part about working at the BTRC?

My favourite part about working at the BTRC is the support and expertise that is available. Everyone here is very knowledgeable and experts in the field. There are many opportunities to learn new things and hear about what others are doing.

What advice do you have for anyone interested in a career in science?

I think it’s good to explore different lab and research environments before making a decision. If you’re interested in the research aspect of science, it’s good to try that out first, for example during undergraduate or in the summer. Lab dynamics is also something to consider, maybe you’re more comfortable in a smaller lab vs. a bigger lab, or how social the lab is outside of work vs. just having a work relationship. Mainly just know what type of environment you would feel the most comfortable and supported in, and to join a lab (or company if industry) similar to your preference.

Hobbies and interests?

I enjoy reading books and cuddling with my cats.
