QBIct stands for Quantifying Brain Injury on Computed Tomography.<\/p>\n
The Problem:<\/strong> Children who are admitted to the hospital with\u00a0decreased level of consciousness after a traumatic brain injury require urgent\u00a0medical attention. Treatment\u00a0will depend on\u00a0the type and severity of injury. Unfortunately, history and physical\u00a0findings are often unreliable in the first hours of\u00a0hospitalization, which is the critical time period in which urgent\u00a0management decisions must be made.<\/p>\n The Solution:<\/strong> We have developed a promising tool for measuring detectable evidence of traumatic brain\u00a0injury on routine brain scans. The tool combines features invisible to the human eye but detectable by\u00a0computer software with expert knowledge.\u00a0We want to evaluate how well our\u00a0tool can perform in a real health care setting.
