The goals of this study are to assess the severity\u00a0of\u00a0brain injury using brain imaging, specifically\u00a0the CT scan<\/a>, early after injury by:<\/p>\n

    \n
  1. determining the location of injury in\u00a0the brain, and<\/li>\n
  2. using a mathematical technique to\u00a0quantify the severity of injury based on\u00a0imaging characteristics<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    We have\u00a0named this method QBIct<\/strong> for\u00a0Quantifying Brain Injury on Computed\u00a0Tomography.<\/p>\n

    You\/Your child can participate in this study if you\/they:<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

      \n
    • are\u00a0less\u00a0than 18 years of age,<\/li>\n
    • have experienced a mild, moderate,\u00a0or severe traumatic brain injury,<\/li>\n
    • have been\u00a0admitted to the hospital less than\u00a0one week after the traumatic brain injury, and<\/li>\n
    • have had a head CT scan done as part of routine care.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

      Participants in this study will be\u00a0provided with a certificate of participation and a written summary of\u00a0the functional assessment\u00a0to\u00a0keep\u00a0in their\u00a0records.<\/p>\n
