We will compare the brains of children treated for a brain tumour with those of children who have never had a brain tumour. We will be looking at both how the brain looks and works, focusing on memory.<\/span><\/span><span class=\"EOP SCXW210217538 BCX0\" data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\">\u00a0<\/span>[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row animation=&#8221;fadeInUp&#8221;][vc_column][vc_separator][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n<h4 style=\"color: #569ff3\">What will my child need to do?<\/h4>\n<p><span class=\"TextRun SCXW254801342 BCX0\" lang=\"EN-CA\" xml:lang=\"EN-CA\" data-contrast=\"auto\"><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW254801342 BCX0\">Your child would need to come to SickKids once a year for 3 years. <span class=\"TextRun SCXW206476067 BCX0\" lang=\"EN-CA\" xml:lang=\"EN-CA\" data-contrast=\"auto\"><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW206476067 BCX0\">In total, the testing will last about <strong>7<\/strong><\/span><\/span><strong><span class=\"TextRun SCXW206476067 BCX0\" lang=\"EN-CA\" xml:lang=\"EN-CA\" data-contrast=\"auto\"><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW206476067 BCX0\">\u00a0hours <\/span><\/span><\/strong><span class=\"TextRun SCXW206476067 BCX0\" lang=\"EN-CA\" xml:lang=\"EN-CA\" data-contrast=\"auto\"><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW206476067 BCX0\">(plus time for breaks and lunch). Your child will be asked to lie very still (like a statue) in the MRI scanner for about 60 minutes while the scanner is taking the pictures. There are no known risks of MRI. These brain scans do not involve radiation like the X-Rays your child may have had if he\/she had broken a bone.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column_inner][\/vc_row_inner][vc_row_inner][vc_column_inner width=&#8221;1\/5&#8243;][vc_single_image image=&#8221;862&#8243; img_size=&#8221;100&#215;100&#8243; alignment=&#8221;center&#8221;][\/vc_column_inner][vc_column_inner width=&#8221;4\/5&#8243;][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n<ol start=\"2\">\n<li>A <strong>Magnetoencephalography (MEG) <\/strong>scan will also be needed. This is a non-invasive, harmless imaging technique that records the magnetic activity that your brain creates when it is active. Your child will do 3 different game-like tasks while they are in the MEG (1 hour), in addition to tasks outside of the MEG (1 hour). Total time for the MEG (and related pre- and post-scan tasks) will be about 1.5 to 2 hours.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column_inner][\/vc_row_inner][vc_row_inner][vc_column_inner][vc_column_text]Some children may not like lying down in the MRI or MEG machines.\u00a0 If your child becomes upset in the scanner, the imaging will be stopped.
