PAIN-RISK

The development and validation of a screening tool to identify paediatric patients at risk of chronic post-surgical pain.

Approximately 20% of youth undergoing major surgeries develop chronic post-surgical pain that is associated with mental health concerns. Currently, there is no validated way of identifying youth at risk of chronic pain for appropriate referral to such services.

Our team is developing and validating a critically needed screening measure to identify those at risk so that they can get access to the right treatments at the right time, to prevent the development of chronic pain and co-occurring mental health concerns.
