Neuropathic Pain in Cancer Survivors

Pain is very common in teen survivors of childhood cancer. Particularly, neuropathic pain as a result of the cancer itself (e.g., tumour compressing a nerve) or from neurological damage from surgery or neurotoxic drugs.
The neuropathic pain in adolescent survivors of childhood cancer study was conducted to get a preliminary estimate of the prevalence of neuropathic pain in the population. To do this, we used the Pediatric PainSCAN and PainDetect tools. We also wanted to describe the characteristics of neuropathic pain and explore biopsychosocial factors associated with neuropathic pain among adolescent survivors of childhood cancer.
