Study title: Pain Rehabilitation Virtual Reality (PR-VR) at-home program: A pilot randomized controlled trial to determine feasibility and impact on pain and function in adolescents during and after COVID-19.

Study description: The PR-VR Pilot Trial is a comprehensive, engaging, and effective approach to home-based chronic pain rehabilitation. Virtual reality-based pain rehabilitation aims to reduce pain and improve physical function in children and adolescents with chronic pain.

This pilot trial will test the effect of at-home virtual reality-based pain rehabilitation program. It will examine the feasibility of the off-the-shelf VR program and custom VR program. It will also examine the preliminary effectiveness in reducing fear of movement, pain catastrophizing, pain intensity and promoting pain self-efficacy in adolescents with chronic pain using the VR programs compared to adolescents receiving standard physiotherapy.

If you decide to participate in the study, you will be asked to do the following:

  1. You may have a chance to use virtual reality during your next four physiotherapy appointments with the Chronic Pain clinic
  2. You will complete online questionnaires from home throughout the study
  3. You couldĀ be randomized to one of three groups: (1) virtual reality with over-the-counter games, (2) virtual reality with custom games, (3) standard physiotherapy care
