In our lab, we have used both scanning and transmission electron microscopy to\u00a0view specific\u00a0parts of the inner ear.<\/span><\/h3>\n<\/div><div class=\"fusion-clearfix\"><\/div><\/div><\/div><div class=\"fusion-layout-column fusion_builder_column fusion-builder-column-1 fusion_builder_column_3_4 3_4 fusion-three-fourth fusion-column-first\" style=\"--awb-bg-size:cover;width:74%; margin-right: 4%;\"><div class=\"fusion-column-wrapper fusion-flex-column-wrapper-legacy\"><div class=\"fusion-title title fusion-title-1 sep-underline sep-solid fusion-title-text fusion-title-size-two\" style=\"--awb-sep-color:#000000;\"><h2 class=\"fusion-title-heading title-heading-left\" style=\"margin:0;\"><span style=\"color: #0046ad\">Scanning electron microscopy<\/span><\/h2><\/div><div class=\"fusion-clearfix\"><\/div><\/div><\/div><div class=\"fusion-layout-column fusion_builder_column fusion-builder-column-2 fusion_builder_column_1_1 1_1 fusion-one-full fusion-column-last\" style=\"--awb-bg-size:cover;\"><div class=\"fusion-column-wrapper fusion-flex-column-wrapper-legacy\"><div class=\"fusion-text fusion-text-2\"><p style=\"text-align: left\"><strong><span style=\"color: #000000\">A scanning electron microscope (SEM)\u00a0produces high magnification images\u00a0by using a\u00a0beam of electrons that interacts with atoms\u00a0on the surface of the sample. Images produced by the SEM show the topography of the surface of the sample and its resolution can be\u00a0as low as 1\u00a0nanometre.
