During his PhD, he was interested in the neural induction mechanisms of vertebrates and the pluripotency of embryonic stem cells, and developed novel methods for neural\/neuronal differentiation from human pluripotent stem cells which have been widely used by many research groups. With his speciality in developmental neuroscience, Kim\u00a0joined the Ellis lab to establish efficient methods for cortical neuron differentiation from Rett syndrome patient-derived induced pluripotent stem cells.
