Biobank Referral Process<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/h4>\n

Patients are\u00a0<\/span><\/span>initially\u00a0<\/span><\/span>identified by the direct healthcare team responsible for their care, who can then discuss the option of donation of s<\/span><\/span>pecimens to the biobank<\/span><\/span>.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

When s<\/span>pecimens<\/span>\u00a0arrive into the\u00a0<\/span>SickKids Department of Ophthalmology and Vision Sciences Biobank<\/span>, they are\u00a0<\/span>de-identified\u00a0<\/span>and given a unique reference number<\/span>, protecting the privacy of the donor<\/span>.\u00a0 Only relevant clinical information is released to researchers.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Withdrawing Consent<\/strong><\/h4>\n

Patients who donate tissue samples to the Biobank<\/span>\u00a0are free to withdraw their consent at any time, without giving a reason<\/span>.\u00a0<\/span>Withdrawal<\/span>\u00a0of\u00a0<\/span>consent will<\/span>\u00a0not affect\u00a0<\/span>their clinical<\/span>\u00a0care<\/span>\u00a0or legal rights in any way. Withdrawal of consent can be arranged by contacting\u00a0<\/span>SickKids Department of Ophthalmology and Vision Sciences<\/span>\u00a0Biobank. There is no time limit associated with withdrawal of consent and donors are free to withdraw their consent at any time. If consent is withdrawn,\u00a0<\/span>the\u00a0<\/span>Biobank will arrange for the appropriate disposal, where possible, of any samples\u00a0<\/span>still remaining<\/span>. Clinical data associated to the participant will also be removed from the Biobank database.<\/span><\/p>\n
